From time to time,
INFJ-List members compose phrases that other members deem worthy of
preservation. For simplicity's sake, the year headings below indicate
the year in which the quote was submitted, not necessarily the time
at which the words were originally written.
2005
"I once told
my enneagram study group that I felt like a spider inside her web. Even
when I retreat, I can feel the threads that connect me to other people
vibrating. That makes it difficult to relax sometimes."
- Catharine M.
"All of a sudden
we are wise when before we were strange."
- Anne HW
"If you want don't want to talk all evening about something deep and meaningful that I find interesting, go away."
- Bill O.
Michelle B's version of "Who is your Guru?"
People find out about cats in this order:
Cats have sharp claws, purr, and are inexplicable.
Whereas they find out about INFJs in this order:
INFJs are inexplicable, purr, and have sharp claws. - Kenneth Freeman
2004
In response the
question, "What is bling bling?"
"Oh... and just so I get to talk like a dictionary, I should mention
the origin combines both onomatopeia and synesthesia."
- Scott
2003
"Reality, love
it or leave it."
- Ian
"We're just angels,
slumming."
- Kenneth Freeman
"He who knows not
and knows not he knows not - he is a fool, shun him.
He who knows not and knows he knows not - he is simple, teach him.
He who knows and knows not he knows - he is asleep, waken him
He who knows and knows he knows - he is wise, follow him."
- Ian
"I'll second that,
although my own personal version ends thusly: 'He who knows, and knows
that he knows - GRAB HIM! Tie him to a chair and make him *tell you*
what he knows!'"
- Eric
"Too much noise
out there makes too much noise in me."
- Holley
"I hardly consider
myself psychic; I consider it to be subconscious at work. Same difference.
Fortunately, I don't identify with my thoughts. They are fun to watch,
though."
- Kenneth Freeman
"INFJ rocks have
nice things under them."
- Kenneth Freeman
"Verily, verily,
if thou commit an injustice against an INFJ, thou piss on a third rail
you knew not of, and the INFJ and her tribe shall wax wroth, and pump
volts and amperage unto said third rail, and thine urine shalt boil
in thine bladder, and great shall be the smoking thereof.'"
- Kenneth
Freeman
2002
"When I was
about 15 years old I bought a sticker and put it on my bedroom door.
Only about 13 years later did I realise how appropriate it was to this
INFJ. The sticker said, 'Just visiting this planet.'"
- Megan Chambers
"The only
Normal I am aware of is a cycle on a washing machine."
- Neil
"Being spiritually
enlightened helps me score with chicks."
- Kenneth Freeman
"In any situation
with new people, I go through several now-familiar phases:
I am the stranger, the outsider who is Not To Be Trusted.
I am harmless, pass for tame, and probably dull.
I am more interesting than previously thought.
I am *very* interesting.
I am beyond interesting; I am weird. But in a good way.
I am even weirder than first believed, but immensely loveable and lots
of fun.
Surprise! My good nature has limits. The awesome eruption was short-lived,
though, and the apology and making-up came quickly on its heels. I am
still loveable, but assertive when cornered.
I am still weird, still loveable, and rapidly becoming a repository
of secrets, confessions, and core-dumps despite being a goofy oddity.
Was there ever a time I wasn't one of the gang? Will there ever be a
time when I truly will be one of the gang?"
- Laura
"In a lot
of ways, the list is like a relationship: you have to be in it for the
long run and put up with the ups and downs. Sometimes it's the pits,
sometimes it's a bowl of cherries, but this list is probably one of
the largest gatherings of fellow aliens on the planet".
- Stephen Paul Davenport
"Did y'all
notice the proper apostrophe use in "it's"? Slut, maybe, but not an
ignorant one."
- Clinton
"Some of these
people are "friends of friends," some are known from work or school
or a dozen dozen other situations (gross situations if ever there were).
I find myself plagued with self-doubt and insecurity around these random
people, never sure of where I stand, whether we are building a friendship,
becoming enemies or reverting to being strangers, if they like me or
think I am a complete moron."
- Clinton
1999
"Doctrine
is important, but I regard it as an intellectual handle on mystery."
- Kenneth Freeman
"Religion
is the politics of spirituality."
- Bill Olson
"When I was
a teenager I had a saying, 'Love without knowledge is blind, but knowledge
without love is empty.'"
- Renee
"Our genes
might well be selfish, but our minds can be even more selfish."
- Martin
"I've always
thought I would have liked counseling - if it wasn't for the people."
- Julie Studer
"I tested
INTJ several times, and I still act very T at work (because I think
that it's easier to hold others accountable in a work setting by T standards
than by F standards, tho the F does sometimes come into play). But as
I've gotten older and paid the price for pleasing others at my own expense,
I've reluctantly begun to accept my touchy-feely-mooshy-squooshy side
and owned up to my Inner Nice Girl."
- Leslie
"Why is it
that we are always expected to understand everyone, but no one tries
to understand us?"
- Wendy
"We idealists
get scorn for our enthusiasm. Enthusiasm doesnt play very well
in this post-modern age of clever irony. Idealists are certainly capable
of cleverness and irony, but at our core, fundamentally, we are sincere.
And we must be sincere; its a huge part of who we are. But we
have to take a lot of sh*t for that from people who arent very
sincere."
- Bill Brent
"You can either
ride the buffalo or get trampled by the herd."
- Bill Brent
"There's nothing
worse than a disappointed Idealist."
- Renee
"I thought
all Idealists were disappointed?"
- Wendy
"It drives
me nuts to be able to understand others in the abstract but not in the
concrete day-to-day of living."
- Chris
1998
"Sonar...
sonar... sonar... We see around things, so they aren't so sharp, capisce?"
- Kenneth Freeman
"If it were
all down to nurture, I think there wouldn't be any INFJs in this world."
- Gerry, on the Nature vs. Nurture issue
"If I ever
develop Alzheimer's it'll take me *years* to notice."
- Katie
"[I'm] caught
between wanting to be normal and wanting to wring everybody's neck for
the stupid things they did."
- Andy, on being INFJ
"The
heart has its reasons that reason knows nothing of."
Blaise Pascal
