Juliane:
- "Contact
"
The plot is gripping and keeps a good balance between focus on the characters
and moving on with the story. It is sci-fi, but that's not as dominant
as in other movies I've seen. What really puts this film on my personal
list of alltime-favorites is the fantastic acting. Jodie Foster plays
so authentic, I completely identified with her character. The day after
I saw the film I suddenly got a feeling of deja-vu and it took me some
hard thinking to figure out that the feeling was not about one of my
own memories but about a scene from the film. It was as if I'd actually
been there. That has never happened to me with any other film or book.
- "Jenseits
der Stille (Beyond Silence)"
A very subtle and intelligent movie. It is about a (hearing) daughter
growing up with parents who are deaf. What makes this so well done for
me is the fact that deafness is not used in a clichéd way. The story
is about the relationship between father and daughter and her growing
up. Deafness is just one trait of the father among others. All the deaf
characters are played by deaf actors and scenes with sign language are
subtitled.
- "Dirty
Dancing"
This simply has the best happy end I've *ever* seen. Even my ENTP husband
agrees to that!
- "Crouching
Tiger, Hidden Dragon"
This is not a usual Kung-fu movie. The plot is more like a tale or myth,
and it's not violent. I love the film for its visual qualities. The
choreography of the fights (maybe dances would be a better word), colours,
scenery, music - all in perfect harmony and incredibly beautiful.
