Edie:
- "The Wizard
of Oz"
Just some general comments on a movie just about everybody's seen. It's
so magical and innocent; it's my absolute favorite. Judy Garland was
a bit older than Baum's character in the book, but she pulled it off
brilliantly. It had almost everything: music, adventure, fantasy, comedy.
What it didn't have was foul language or sexual refences at all. If
the scriptwriter wants to use that stuff, write for adults.
- "The Graduate"
(1967)
Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft
- "The Great
Dictator" (1940)
Charlie Chaplin (comedy)
- "Brian's
Song" (1971)
James Caan and Billy Dee Williams. Get lots of hankies. Also an achingly
beautiful theme song.
- "One Flew
Over the Cuckoo's Nest"
Jack Nickelson. (comedy, with a sad ending.)
- "Little
Big Man"
Dustin Hoffman. This is probably the least known on my list. The man
character is Jack Crabb, a 121-year-old man spinning tales of his adventures
of the Old West for a newspaper reporter. The tales sound like a bunch
of BS, but so entertainingly done. (comedy)
- Any Richard
Pryor stand-up act
I love Richard Pryor. He's my comedic hero. He shows his psychic scars
and goes into graphic detail of how they were inflicted. But, he makes
them sound sooo funny. Twenty years ago, I was howling hysterically
at his performances. I could watch the same act right now and feel exactly
the same way.
- I know I've reached
my limit, but just got to mention "Raising Arizona"
(comedy), "The Jerk" (comedy) and "Pulp Fiction"
(violence, adult language, rape scene). Pulp Fiction isn't for the faint
of heart but....the storyline kept my attention.
