Dennis:

  • "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon"
  • "Gladiator"
  • "Elizabeth Magnolia"
  • "Evita X2"
  • "Avengers" (ok, this is not a fave, but I felt nostalgically obligated to buy a copy...)
  • "Star Wars" Ep II
  • LOTR / Fellowship LOTR / Two Towers LOTR / you know what (big ole empty space, counting down the days)
  • "Hunt For Red October"
  • "Die Another Day"
  • "Ocean's Eleven"
  • "Reservoir Dogs"
  • "Kill Bill Vol. 1" (brand spankin' new and *very* timely/therapeutic this week...)
  • "Usual Suspects"
  • "Memento"
  • "Thomas Crown Affair"
  • "Beautiful Thing"
  • "Sordid Lives"
  • "The Mahabharata" (Peter Brooks)

Speaking of which, has anyone here seen the Brooks production of "The Mahabharata"? The production just completely enthralled me ... after which I tried out a couple of "short" translations ... and eventually tackled Van Buitenen's "complete" translation (at least the five books he managed to get to before dying) during a long summer of field work back in '92. I have to say, no other source text has ever moved me or affected my life so strongly, not to mention that it's simply an incredible story. As for Brooks' version ... I had no idea that spoken Sanskrit was so beautiful. Van Buitenen's texts include a neat introduction on pronunciation. Just mentally "speaking" all of the proper names as I read it was somehow centering and peaceful in and of itself.
