Chatte:
- "To Kill
a Mockingbird"
A classic. Maybe my all-time favorite film. Gregory Peck is brilliant,
and the two kids were very good. Notable too for Robert Duvall's first
screen appearance. Life in the segregated American South of early mid
20th C.
- "Paper
Moon"
Another film shot in b&w like To Kill a Mockingbird. Perfectly cast.
A bittersweet comedy set during the American Depression (1930s) with
Ryan and Tatum O'Neal, and the wonderful Madeline Kahn.
- "Bedrooms
and Hallways"
An absolutely delightful British film about role reversal, same-sex
relationships, and the freedom to just *be*, without labels. The cast
includes Kevin McKidd, Sir Simon Callow, Harriet Walter, Jennifer Ehle,
Tom Hollander and Hugo Weaving.
- "Alive
and Kicking" aka "Indian Summer"
A young ballet dancer has seen many of his friends as well as his
mentor and former lover die of AIDS; he is dying of the disease as well.
His one remaining passion is to dance the lead in a famous ballet before
he becomes to ill to dance any longer. Along the way he meets a shy,
plain, middle-aged psychologist - definitely not his dream lover - who
will be his salvation. Stars Jason Flemyng, Sir Antony Sher, Anthony
Higgins, Bill Nighy.
- "Russian
Doll"
An Australian comedy about the trouble one mail-order Russian bride
causes best friends, trust, and not giving up when you find The One.
Stars Hugo Weaving and David Wenham.
- "Raise
the Red Lantern"
Drama set in 1920s China. An educated young woman becomes the fourth
wife of a wealthy man. The film deals with destroyed hopes, jealousy,
the pain of loss and isolation, honor, and tradition. Beautifully photographed,
visually stunning. This film takes you to a very different world and
immerses you totally. Stars the beautiful Gong Li.
