Shelley:
- The Dark Materials
series: "The Golden Compass," "The Subtle Knife,"
"The Amber Spyglass" by Philip Pullman
This trilogy has to be one of my all-time favourite series of books.
I can't wait to re-read them.
- The "Harry
Potter" books (all four of 'em) by J. K. Rowling
- "Mists
of Avalon" by Marion Zimmer Bradley
One of the great retellings of camelot.
- "101 Dalmations"
by Dodie Smith
Just so young Americans in particular realize that Walt Disney did not
create this wonderful story; its origins are strictly English.
- "The Master
and Margarita" by Mikhail Bulgakov
I've read it twice already in my life...now Idon't think I'll have time
to read it again, even though I would love to.
- "Terms
of Endearment" by Larry Mcmurtry
I read this after I saw the film and I thought the Aurora in the book
was even better than Shirley MacLaine.
- "Name
of the Rose" by Umberto Eco
I read the book first; the movie was a disaster.
- "The Wasteland"
by T. S. Eliot
Because "the center shall not hold" otherwise.
- Bonus book: "The
Groucho Letters"
Think of them as a substitute for cliffnotes on "The Wasteland"
(Groucho had extended correspondence with Eliot).
