Rob:

  • "James and The Giant Peach" by Roald Dahl
A wonderful kids book that adults can read and enjoy. Don't watch the movie either, it is much more fun to imagine this one yourself! All of Roald Dahl's stuff is good, but this is a masterpiece that surpasses the others.
  • "Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams
Still the granddaddy of all humourous sci-fi. Multiple readings bring out details you missed the first time around. Night by Elie Wiesel If you aren't crying by the end of this book....powerful stuff.
  • "MAUS" by Art Spiegelman
It's a comic book style book but an amazing commentary on the holocaust.
  • "Holidays on Ice" by David Sedaris
One of the funniest satirical holiday books you will ever read. Especially hilarious is the "Santaland Diaries" about his time as an elf in Macy's one Christmas season. I recommend his other books too, if you like dry sarcasm, but none are quite as funny as this one!
  • "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay" by Michael Chabon
A wonderful epic about two cousins who start a comic book company in the '40's.
  • "Who Moved my Cheese?" by Spencer Johnson
Very interesting book about coping with and adapting to change.
  • "The Tao of Pooh" by Benjamin Hoff
Taoism explained in a practical matter through the use of Pooh metaphors.
  • "Passage to Intimacy" by Lori Gordon
Practical advice on developing communication skills in relationships. Not just good for couples, but for anyone who wants to communicate better with others.
