Minna:
This is my list, which clearly reveals my own interests toward on the other hand old Rome and on the other hand Victorian England:

  • "A Great Deliverance" by Elizabeth George
Realistic and yet "traditional" British crime novel (although the author is American :)
  • "I, Claudius" by Robert Graves
A great novel of Emperor Claudius
  • "The Anubis Gates" by Tim Powers
    Sci-fi, Victorian stuff, occultism, whatnot
  • "Quo Vadis" by Henry Sienkiewicz
Great Christian book and historical novel
  • "To Say Nothing of the Dog" by Connie Willis
Sci-fi, supposedly, although quite original and more resembling a historical novel or humour
  • "Much Obliged, Jeeves" by P. G. Wodehouse
    Great piece of British humour
