Laura:
- "The Space
Child's Mother Goose" by Frederick Winsor
This book is a gem of wit, humor, and rollicking good fun for anyone
familiar with Mother Goose, quantum physics, semantics, and philosophy.
It's a joyful romp by a smart-aleck's smart-aleck, and I read it with
smiles and much laughter. A simply delightful read.
- "Soul Music"
by Terry Pratchett
The first
Pratchett book I read and it's still among my favorites. If you love
rock 'n' roll, fantasy, humor, and relish an amazingly nimble and astute
wit, this book will send you.
- "V for Vendetta"
by Alan Moore
A graphic
novel ('comic book' to the great unwashed) written when the AIDS hysteria
was at its worst and Britain was rumbling dark thoughts about concentration
camps for victims of the disease. The artwork is superb, the writing
is brilliant and insightful, and the tale is a masterful call to waken
against the forces that would sacrifice the beauty of human diversity
to a drab, uniform, and hopeless slavery of the soul.
- "The Highly
Sensitive Person--How to Thrive When the World Overwhelms You" by
Elaine N. Aron, Ph.D.
I read this
book with one cathartic "Aha!" after another. This book helped me understand
and frame myself within a positive model, helping me perceive aspects
of myself that I previously thought were freakish flaws as being instead
rare and valuable gifts. Best of all, it gives sound and useful advice
on survival for all of us metaphorical canaries in the coal mine.
- "Accupressure's
Potent Points: A Guide to Self-care for Common Ailments" by Michael
Reed Gach
One of the best reference books in my small library, I have used this
for over a dozen years and still find it useful, essential, and instructive.
This stuff really works, and it's easier than accupuncture.
- "All My Patients
Are Under the Bed: Memoirs of a Cat Doctor" by Dr. Louis J. Camuti
(with Marilyn and Haskel Frankel)
This book is a must-read for cat lovers. It's funny, warm, informative,
and well written. Wish this guy were my vet.
