Chatte Raye:

  • "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee
One of my all time favorites, and I'm going to repeat this in the movies section. I think it should be required reading for graduation from high school. Exquisite evocation of time and place. I'm just one of thousands of people who wished that Atticus Finch had been their father.
  • Any work by Ray Bradbury, but most currently, "From the Dust Returned"
Aloving homage to Halloween, family, dreams and regrets. IMO, the author is a national treasure. For those who appreciate whimsy and imagination.
  • "Hawaii" and "The Covenant" by James Mitchener
Wonderful, sweeping novelizations of history, to be read and re-read over the years.
  • "Cabinet of Curiosities" by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child
A fantastic mix of thriller, modern day detective work and archaeology, psychology and a touch of the supernatural. This was the first book by these authors I read, and I enjoyed it so much that I have since devoured all but their latest book (am awaiting the p/b).
  • "Relic" and "Riptide" also by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child
The first is a great knuckle-biting, scare-the-pants-off-ya book (their first collaboration) and the second is a must for fans of pirates and buried treasure, equally as suspenseful.
